NVIDIA supplies Microsoft Azure
NVIDIA supplies large volumes of GPUs to Microsoft Azure for hyperscale AI computing. Azure customers can rent NVIDIA Blackwell systems through ND GB200 v6 and ND GB300 v6 virtual machines, built on 72-GPU racks. Azure was the first hyperscaler to power on a Vera Rubin system for testing (March 2026) and received its first production Rubin systems in August 2026. Microsoft also announced early-stage Rubin support for Azure Local in March 2026.

History
- 2024Microsoft launched its first in-house AI chip, Maia 100, and announced three successors (codenamed Braga, Braga-R, and Clea) planned for 2025-2027, an explicit hedge against depending on NVIDIA for 94%+ of the GPU market.
- 2025-10Reports indicated Microsoft's follow-on Maia chip (Braga/Maia 200) mass production slipped into 2026 due to design changes and staff turnover, even as Microsoft's CTO publicly pushed to reduce reliance on NVIDIA and AMD GPUs.
