Microsoft receives first production NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 systems (Aug 21, 2026), following March 2026 lab validation milestone

On August 21, 2026, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella confirmed via X that Microsoft data centers received the first production NVIDIA Vera Rubin systems, writing "Delivery day at our Microsoft DCs as the first production Vera Rubins arrive," thanking NVIDIA and Azure hardware/datacenter teams. NVIDIA's own X account corroborated: "NVIDIA Vera Rubin is ramping into full production. Congrats to the teams at Microsoft." This is a DELIVERY milestone, not confirmation of live production workloads running on Rubin at Azure scale. It follows an earlier, distinct milestone: at NVIDIA GTC in March 2026, Nadella stated Microsoft was "the first cloud to bring up an NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 system for validation" in a Microsoft lab (per Microsoft's own GTC blog post), with broader Azure data-center rollout described at the time as happening "over the next few months." The original Jan 2026 (CES) announcement was a readiness/engineering-compatibility claim, not a deployment claim. These three milestones (Jan readiness announcement -> Mar lab validation -> Aug production delivery) should be read as a status progression, not three separate claims of the same fact.
